Introduction to Python

Python is a general purpose programming language for electronic or machine testing, logic functions calculation, data modelling, and games development. It is used by many practitioners in many fields including data scientist.

Python gains more popularity because of its simplicity in terms of syntax form. It uses simple English language and simple programming format structures.

Aside of being free for everyone to use, another benefit of using Python is that you are supported by active communities whose many of them develop ‘packages’ (plugins you may say) to do many things. Forums of Python users are everywhere for you to join with.

Learning Python is easy. However, beginners may become overwhelmed at first in choosing a Python distribution. As the use of Python expanded to broad range of practical businesses, Python was bundled into many distribution along with other programming or analytics tools. A popular  distribution of Python is Anaconda. There are Anaconda for Windows, Linuxes, and Macs. Anaconda will take care of your Python installation and settings. It also helps you maintaining additional packages that you are likely to use often as you go deeper.

If you are already familiar with other languages, and want to learn Python quickly, I recommend reading through Dive Into Python 3. You can download the eBook in HTML or PDF format.

Alternatively, you can follow the Python Tutorial.
